GREEN BAY, WI- The Green Bay Gamblers scored ten seconds into the game, led 3-0 after the first period, and cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Muskegon Lumberjacks Friday night.
The win is Green Bay’s first in the season series, and the Gamblers have now won three straight.
On the game’s opening shift, center Matt Jennings roped a wrist shot over the glove of Keith Petruzzelli, off the crossbar, and beyond the goal line to make it 1-0 in just ten seconds.
On the penalty kill, Jennings would add his second of the night off a Brody Stevens shot that generated a juicy rebound. Just 4:25 into the game, Green Bay had a 2-0 lead.
Josh Kosack scored a power play goal with 8:58 left in the first to make it 3-0, and Green Bay would coast to a victory behind the solid play of netminder David Hrenak.
Hrenak was outstanding for the second straight time against Muskegon, stopping 32 of 33 shots. He improved to 8-8-2, while Petruzzelli, who made 19 saves on 24 shots, dropped to 13-8-0.
Jason Dhooghe added the fourth goal for the Gamblers, blasting a wrist shot past Petruzzelli on a breakaway. The score would be 4-0 after the second, and the teams traded goals late in the third period to make the final 5-1.
Despite outshooting Green bay 33-24, Muskegon lost in regulation for just the second time in 13 games.
The two teams will wrap up the season series tomorrow night at 8:05 EST. The game will be broadcast live on 92.5 Nash Icon.
