KEARNEY, NE- The Muskegon Lumberjacks blanked the Tri-City Storm 2-0 on Saturday at the Viaero Center, sweeping the weekend series to take hold of 2nd place in the Eastern Conference.

Adam Brizgala made 17 saves to earn his second shutout of the season, and Andrei Svechnikov added a goal and an assist for his 15th multi-point game of the season.

Svechnikov potted the game-winner in the second on an unassisted goal, his 26th of the season.

The Jacks controlled the offensive play, outshooting the Storm 36-17. The 17 shots are the fewest the Lumberjacks have allowed this season, setting a season low for the second straight day.

Late in the third, Svechnikov rushed up the ice with Austin Albrecht on a 2-on-1. The Russian rookie floated a pass to the tape of Albrecht, who buried the one-timer past a sliding Eric Dop to seal the game with just 2:41 left.

Albrecht scored four goals and five points in the weekend pair.

Brizgala stopped all 17 Tri-City offerings, improving to 14-7-4 on the year. The Czech netminder has won two straight, stopping 59 of 61 shots in that span.

Combined with two Dubuque losses this weekend, the wins bring the Jacks past the Saints and into second place in the Eastern Conference. Chicago also lost tonight, meaning the Jacks are within three points of first place.

Green Bay took care of business against Cedar Rapids, so the Jacks magic number is trimmed to five with six games remaining, four of which are at home.

The four-game homestand begins next weekend, with the Jacks taking on a Western Conference playoff team in Fargo. Friday night is scout night and Saturday is the Jacks’ annual Jacks Fight Cancer night.

Saturday night’s game will feature a postgame jersey auction that will benefit charity.

Both games begin at 7:15pm at LC Walker Arena.
