LINCOLN, NE- The Muskegon Lumberjacks got a strong start from goaltender Adam Brizgala, but were outdueled by Brizgala’s countryman Tomas Vomacka in a 1-0 loss to open the season.
Devlin McCabe scored the game’s lone goal with 10:02 left in the third on a penalty shot. Lumberjacks forward Jachym Kondelik was whistled for covering the puck in the crease, and McCabe wristed the ensuing penalty shot over Brizgala’s glove.
The Lumberjacks had a plethora of scoring chances throughout the game, but Vomacka, a Nashville Predators prospect, was up to the task each time. He was a stalwart on a Lincoln penalty kill that was effective all eight times they hit the ice.
The Jacks were also strong on the kill, going 3/3 on the night.
In a then-tie game, Jacks defenseman Colby Bukes tried to fire up his team when he fought Stars captain Dominick Mersch just 18 seconds into the second period. In a furios few seconds, Bukes drilled Mersch with a flurry of rights before Mersch responded with a takedown.
In the end, the Jacks’ offense lacked the same punch as Bukes, and were shut out in their season opener. They continue their season-opening road trip tomorrow in Des Moines, taking on the Buccaneers at 8:05pm EST The game will be broadcast live on 92.5 Nash Icon.
Friday, October 13, the Jacks return to LC Walker Arena for their home opener against the defending champion Chicago Steel. The first 1,000 fans through the doors, which open at 6:15, will receive a free magnet schedule.
Tickets are now on sale at the LC Walker Arena box office.
