MUSKEGON, MI- The Muskegon Lumberjacks have added goaltender Keegan Karki to their roster. Karki, 17, spent time with the Omaha Lancers this preseason and played last year with Team USA.
The 6-foot-4 goaltender hails from Sartell, MN, and is committed to the University of North Dakota. In 16 USHL games last season for the U17s, Karki had a 1-14-1 record, 4.46 GAA and .882 save percentage. Karki represented the United States in the U17 World Championship last year, playing in five games for the Americans. Playing against his age group in that tournament, Karki had a 2.28 GAA and .894 SV%.
Karki will be the backup goaltender behind Adam Brizgala, who has started strong for Muskegon in net. Brizgala has a 2-2-0 record, 2.35 GAA and .921 SV% in five games this season. Karki replaces Matthew Vernon, who appeared in just one game for Muskegon, and allowed four goals on 14 shots in 20 minutes of play.
“Well, first off I’m still learning about Keegan,” said head coach John LaFontaine. “We’ve only seen him for one practice so far, but he has skill in net to go with a 6-foot-4 frame. What I do know is that he’s come to Muskegon with the right frame of mind to earn ice time.”
Karki was drafted by Omaha 20th overall in the 2017 Phase II USHL draft, and will become eligible for the NHL draft this year. He is listed as a C-rated prospect by Central Scouting.
Karki and the Lumberjacks face the Youngstown Phantoms this weekend in a home-and-home series. Friday’s game will be in Youngstown, while Saturday’s game will be played at LC Walker Arena.
