MUSKEGON, MI- Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Danil Gushchin was named to the All-USHL third team on Thursday after leading the way offensively for the Jacks throughout the 2019-20 season.
Gushchin paced Muskegon with 47 points in 42 games. The Russian-born forward also led the team with 22 goals, six game-winning goals, three shorthanded goals, and a +21 rating.
Gushchin, a second-year winger from Yekaterinburg, Russia, was named USHL forward of the week twice this year, and became just the third Lumberjack to ever score four goals in a game during a dramatic overtime victory against Waterloo in November.
Gushchin’s mark of 1.12 points per game ranked 11th in the USHL this season among players who suited up for more than 20 games, and his 22 tallies were also 11th in the league. Gushchin’s point total of 47 checked in at 16th among all USHL skaters.
“We would like to extend our congratulations to Danil,” said head coach Mike Hamilton. “Danil is very deserving of this recognition; he was a leader on and off the ice for us. He was constantly providing highlight-reel plays that few other players in this league can match. The biggest compliment you can receive is to be the number-one focus of your opponent, and Gushchin was exactly that for every game we played.”
Gushchin, who turned 18 in February, is NHL draft eligible for the first time this year, and is projected by many to be selected in the second or third round.
