MUSKEGON, MI - The Lumberjacks fought hard but could not come back after the Gamblers score two unanswered goals in the third period.
The Green Bay Gamblers started their regular season tonight against the Lumberjacks. After winning their opening game, the Lumberjacks looked to prevent the Green Bay Gamblers from doing the same.
Both teams started slowly and did not generate chances until six minutes into the first period. After a great save by the Lumberjacks goaltender Jan Skorpik, Jacob Guevin scored shooting from in front of the Gamblers net at 13:50. The teams traded chances until Thomas Sinclair passed the puck from the corner to Jacks forward Jack Williams, who shot and scored over the right pad of the Gamblers goaltender at 8:57. The Jacks held the momentum, killed off a high sticking penalty but unfortunately could not score on the power play chance given to them with 4:07 left in the period. The Gamblers gained momentum from their penalty kill and John Mittelstadt scored shooting top shelf from the slot with 1:45 left in the period making it 2-1 in favor of the Lumberjacks.
In the second period, the Jacks created multiple chances and held the momentum for the first nine minutes. These chances where met with some great saves by Matt Davis, the Gamblers goaltender. The Gamblers gained some momentum and scored a goal as a shot from the point deflected in tying the game at 2 with 10:57 left. After some good defensive play in their own zone, the Jacks held off the Gamblers until the Jacks took a penalty for holding with 55 seconds remaining.
To start the third, the Jacks killed off the remainder of the holding penalty but the Gamblers scored quickly afterwards as Jackson Kunz deflected a high slot shot from Jesse Tucker. The Gamblers took a tripping penalty at 15:07 giving the Jacks a chance to tie the game on the power play. After the power play the Gamblers took back momentum until they scored on a rebound in front of the Jacks net with 9:28 left in the period. The Lumberjacks fought hard and came close with a shot off of the post and two chances in front of the Gamblers net but could not produce in the last ten minutes of the game resulting in a 4-2 loss to Green Bay.
