PLYMOUTH, MI- The Muskegon Lumberjacks fell to Team USA 10-6 on Sunday in the Jacks’ lone game of the weekend. Lumberjacks games have been anything but boring lately: after Muskegon topped Chicago 10-8 last weekend, today the high-scoring affair went against the Jacks.
Muskegon got strong performances from Cameron Berg (2G, 1A) and John Farinacci (2G), but Team USA’s Isaac Howard and Frank Nazar stole the show, who each tallied five points in the win.
Berg now leads the USHL with nine points on the season.
Muskegon matched Team USA’s shot total (34 shots each), but Team USA’s special teams made a difference. Muskegon’s power play was 0/5, while Team USA converted their lone power-play opportunity.
Muskegon never led in the game, but after falling behind 2-0, the Jacks were able to tie things up at three after one period. From there, Team USA scored three unanswered goals in the second period to take the lead for good.
The Jacks are now 2-2-0, and their .500 winning percentage is good for fourth in the Eastern Conference.
The Jacks have had to reschedule their home games this upcoming weekend due to COVID-19. Muskegon will now open their home schedule on December 18.
Muskegon ranks first in goals scored (25), but last in goals allowed (26).
Muskegon goals: Berg (4,5), Alex Gagne (1), Danil Gushchin (5), Farinacci (2,3)
Muskegon assists: Berg (4), Christophe Fillion (5), Dylan Wendt (5)
