MUSKEGON, MI- The Muskegon Lumberjacks acquired defenseman Kyle Aucoin from the Tri-City Storm on Sunday in exchange for draft picks and future considerations.
In exchange for Aucoin, Muskegon has sent a first-round pick in the 2022 USHL Phase II Draft, a fourth-round pick in the 2021 USHL Phase I Draft and future considerations to Tri-City. Muskegon adds Aucoin and an eighth-round pick in the 2021 Phase I USHL Draft
Aucoin is a 2020 6th-round NHL Draft pick to the Detroit Red Wings, and becomes the seventh Lumberjack who is either already drafted, or listed on NHL Central Scouting’s rankings for the 2021 NHL Draft.
“We are excited to add a defenseman of Kyle’s caliber,” said President of Hockey Operations Steve Lowe. “With the injury to Luke Krys putting the remainder of his season in question, we needed to add a quality defenseman that will help with our hopefully long playoff run.”
“Kyle is a high-character individual and will fit right in with the Jacks.”
Aucoin hails from Ottawa, Ontario, stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 170 pounds. He is playing his second USHL season after appearing in 48 games in 2019-2020 with Tri-City. In those 48 games, Aucoin scored two goals and added 11 assists. Through 20 games this season, Aucoin has scored two goals and added one assist. In the last two years combined, the 2002-birthyear has a +6 rating.
Aucoin, a Harvard commit, was named to the 2019-2020 USHL All-Academic team. Aucoin becomes the fifth Muskegon player committed to play NCAA hockey in the Ivy league.
Aucoin and the Jacks are just two points out of first place, and will play just one game this weekend. Puck drop is slated for 7:00pm on Friday, when the Jacks host Team USA U17.
