MUSKEGON, Mich. — The Muskegon Lumberjacks have announced the addition of goaltender Platon Zadorozhnyy from Khimik Voskresensk in the VHL.
Zadorozhnyy, the 6-foot-1, 184-pound netminder appeared in 22 games with MHK Spartak Moskva during the 2020-21 regular season with a record of 13-7-1, putting up a 2.40 GAA and a .920 save percentage with three shutouts. In four games with Khimik Voskresensk, Zadorozhnyy is 2-0-0 with a 2.49 GAA and a .902 save percentage. The Moskva, Russia native is committed to playing for the University of Maine.
“We couldn’t be more excited about the addition of Platon to our roster,” said Lumberjacks Head Coach Mike Hamilton. “We’ve had a number of Russian players come through Muskegon over the years and we’re excited to have Platon bolster our goaltending.”
In recent years, Muskegon has become a pipeline for Russian-born players through the USHL, importing players such as Andrei Svechnikov, Egor Afanasyev, Daniil Gushchin, Alex Yakovenko, and Igor Larionov Jr from Eastern Europe.
For the past three seasons, Gushchin, now in the San Jose Sharks organization, skated in 139 games with the Lumberjacks, totaling 70 goals, 77 assists for 147 points.
Upcoming Theme Nights — Rivalry & Comic-Con Night
A classic rivalry comes to Muskegon for a good cause on Friday, Oct. 29, when Muskegon hosts the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Both Spartan and Wolverine fans are encouraged to support local charities, which will benefit Muskegon Rescue Mission and Love in Action. To make it enjoyable, it’s turning into a competition: which fanbase can donate more? Will it be MSU or U of M? Pianist Billy Ryan will be in the house to fire up both fan bases with performances of each fight song. Those who donate will be eligible for ticket upgrades. The fun will continue into Saturday, Oct. 30, when the Lumberjacks celebrate Halloween with Comic-Con night! This spooky night will include trick or treating on the concourse and your favorite characters! Grand Rapids Comic-Con will be on the concourse.
