MUSKEGON, Mich. — The Muskegon Lumberjacks will travel to Chicago for a single-game matchup against the Chicago Steel on Saturday, Nov. 13. Puck drop is slated at 8:05 pm EST from Geneva, Ill. at Fox Valley Ice Arena. This will mark the fourth time these two teams have played against each other this season, with Muskegon’s record against Chicago standing at 1-1-1-0. Most recently, both teams split the weekend series back in October, with the Lumberjacks winning 6-to-5 in overtime on Oct. 15 and Chicago claiming game two with a 4-to-1 decision.

Stainless Steel

The Chicago Steel currently have the most points in both the Eastern Conference and the entire United States Hockey League with 23 points in 15 games played with an overall record of 10-2-3-0. In their most recent outing, the Steel dispatched both the Green Bay Gamblers by a score of 6-to-2 and the Dubuque Fighting Saints by a score of 4-to-3. Chicago boasts a pair of NHL draft picks, those being Jackson Blake, who was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes #109 overall in the fourth round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and, Sam Lipkin, who was selected by the Arizona Coyotes #223 overall in the seventh round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. Leading the way for Chicago is forward Jackson Blake who currently leads the entire USHL in points with a stat line of seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points. Sam Lipkin and Jack Harvey each share the team-lead in goals with eight. Adam Fantilli sits third on the team in points, having scored seven goals and nine assists for 16 points. On defense, Jake Livanavage continues to impress as he leads team defensemen in points, having scored 11 assists in 15 games this year. Roughly 13 percent of Chicago’s goals this year have come from the blue line, with Anthony Dowd and Lukas Gustafsson leading the way along with Livanavage. In goal, Nick Haas has run away with the starting goalie job, recently named USHL goaltender of the week. Through seven games this season, Haas has a 6-1-0 record, with a 2.39 GAA and a .915 save percentage. The Williamsville, N.Y. native is committed to playing at Colgate University.

About Last Weekend

The Lumberjacks earned their second win of the season last week but ultimately split with the Youngstown Phantoms as Muskegon closed out a four-game homestand. Friday’s match was a tight contest, with only two goals scored and two minor penalties having been called. Ben Strinden scored his fifth goal of the season for Muskegon, but the Phantoms managed to tie the game and send it into a shootout. But it was the Lumberjacks who would get the last laugh when Quinn Hutson won the game in the skills competition, giving the Jacks their second win of the season by defeating Youngstown 2-to-1 in a shootout. Saturday’s game was almost the same story as the night prior, where the Lumberjacks held the lead two times, but it was Youngstown who came roaring back to tie the game twice and get the game-winner with just under two minutes left in regulation. Jacob Guevin and Jake Braccini both scored for Muskegon, but it wasn’t enough as the Phantoms clawed their way back to a 3-to-2 victory. With the split, the Lumberjacks remain in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings with a record of 2-7-1-2 on the year.
