MUSKEGON, MI- The Muskegon Lumberjacks threw 30 shots on net, but Des Moines Netminder Jan Ruzicka stopped every one of them en route to a 2-0 shutout victory.
Des Moines earns a split of the weekend series at LC Walker Arena, as well as a split of the two-game season series.
Adam Brizgala made 25 saves on 26 Buccaneer shots, but was charged with the loss, falling to 12-6-3.
Muskegon outshot Des Moines 25-10 heading into the third period, but neither team could break through with a goal in the first 40 minutes.
Midway through the third, former Lumberjack Scooter Brickey forced a turnover near the Jacks’ blue line, and joined the rush with forward Cam Orchard. Orchard gave the puck back to Brickey, who fired a one-timer through the legs of Brizgala to make it 1-0.
The Jacks would pull Brizgala with 1:58 to play, and Des Moines defenseman Mario Ferraro added a full-ice empty netter to make the final 2-0.
Muskegon loses in regulation at home for the first time in ten games, despite a good crowd of 2,457.
The Jacks remain at home for a pair next weekend against the Youngstown Phantoms and Chicago Steel. Friday night’s game is dollar beer night, with $1 12oz beers sold until the end of the first period.
