MUSKEGON, MI- Recently acquired from the QMJHL’s Drummondville Voltigeurs, forward Bobby Lynch made his presence felt during his first action as a Muskegon Lumberjack.
Though Muskegon fell to Team USA U18, 6-3, the 20-year-old Grand Blanc, MI, native notched a pretty assist on Daniil Gushchin’s second-period goal.
Lynch played 67 games last year for Drummondville and registered 67 points, earning him a spot at the Ottawa Senators’ prospect camp in September. The 6-foot-2, 180-pound center played with speed, skill and strength alongside linemates Gushchin and Christoffer Bjork.
The talent-laden U18 squad raced out to a 4-0 lead behind their wealth of offensive options. Team USA got goals from six different players and points from 14 skaters, led by Danny Weight, who registered a goal and an assist.
After falling behind 4-0, Muskegon scored three of the game’s next five goals to narrow the score to 6-3 at the 6:25 mark of the third, but were unable to draw any closer.
In addition to Gushchin’s tally, returning forward Nolan Sullivan lit the lamp on a fine play from first-year winger Brock Bremer. Bremer fired a shot, picked up his own rebound, and found Sullivan netfront for the easy tap-in.
The final Jacks’ goal came off the stick of tender Alex Gaffney, who accepted a nifty feed from Bjork (two assists) and gunned a lovely wrist shot off the back bar.
Muskegon’s Brandon Bussi was peppered with 40 shots, making 34 saves in the loss.
The Jacks have two more preseason games this weekend, a home-and-home with the Central Illinois Flying Aces. Friday’s home game will be closed to the public due to ongoing renovations, but the Jacks’ preseason finale on September 22 will be open to the public and free of charge.
