YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Muskegon Lumberjacks are ready to start the home portion of their schedule.
Not that road life disagrees with them. Quite the opposite, in fact.
Muskegon once again showed how comfortable it is away from home Saturday in a dominating 3-0 shutout of Youngstown at the Covelli Centre.
The Lumberjacks scored a goal in each period, including two with the man advantage, and improved to 4-0 before the puck has even dropped at the new-look L.C. Walker Arena.
Brandon Bussi stayed perfect on the season as well in what may have been his best effort of the season. The Lumberjacks netminder has started and won all four games this season, but earned his first shutout a day after turning away the Phantoms in a shootout.
Both teams fired 33 shots at the nets, but Bussi got a piece of them all while Phantoms goalie Jon Mor could not get to three pucks.
Daniil Gushchin opened the scoring at 11:16 of the first period with assists from Hunter Skinner and Alex Yakovenko. Nolan Sullivan tallied his first goal of the season at 14:49 of the second. The even-strength goal was assisted by Brock Bremer.
Skinner notched his first of the season with the man advantage exactly 10 minutes into the third period to salt the game away. Jagger Joshua added the assist.
Muskegon controlled the puck through the first two periods. The guests outshot Youngstown 15-11 in the first and 12-9 in the second.
The Lumberjacks finished 2-for-5 with the man advantage and stopped all five Phantom power play opportunities.
Muskegon will have a week off before making its home debut next Saturday against the Chicago Steel. Game time is 7:15.
