MUSKEGON, MI - Muskegon Lumberjacks head coach Mike Hamilton has been selected to lead Team East at the annual USHL/NHL Top Prospects game held on January 8th at the Ice Box in Lincoln, NE.
Hamilton, in his first season coaching in the USHL, has the Lumberjacks in first place in the Eastern Conference. The Jacks’ 20-5-1 record and 41 points are both bests in the league, and Muskegon holds a ten-point lead in the East over second-place Chicago.
Hamilton will join three of his players in Lincoln: F Egor Afanasyev, D Hunter Skinner and G Keegan Karki were all selected to play in the event that will draw dozens of NHL scouts.
“It is a honor for our guys to be selected to take part in such a high profile event,” said Hamilton. “This game is an opportunity to showcase their skills, talents, and personalities both on and off the ice to every NHL team. I’m thrilled that I’ll have the chance to be there with them for such an incredible experience.”
Afanasyev is the highest-rated Jack for the 2019 NHL draft, drawing a B rating from NHL Central scouting, indicating the Russian is a 2nd or 3rd-round prospect. The second-year USHL forward and Michigan State commit leads Muskegon with both 13 goals and 31 points.
Skinner is tabbed a C-rated skater (4th-7th round), while Karki was listed as a C skater preseason, but dropped off the most recent list due to injury.
Now in the midst of an eight-day Christmas break, Muskegon next takes the ice on December 28th at home against the Madison Capitols.
